Goals and Routes of Exploration

I would like to take some time to describe the exploration process that will be carried out over the next month and a half in regards to common sports injuries, rehabilitation, and the psychological impacts of injury. I will be exploring both the physical and mental obstacles that high-school and collegiate athletes endure. Specifically, as more is learned about the physical recovery process following an injury, I will evaluate the influence of major injuries on an individual’s well-being.

I will be using journal articles, online news sources, and interviews to help further explain the varying physical and psychological implications that result from suffering severe season-ending injuries. I will also be using my personal experiences as an injured athlete throughout my posts in comparison to my findings.

What brings my interest to this topic is my experience as a collegiate athlete with a chronic knee injury that has changed my life on and off the basketball court. While I am able to continue to play, I understand first-hand the psychological battle that comes along with the recovery process and the resiliency that is gained once returned to play.
